Junior Cycle Science About these resources

About this site

Science, within easy reach.

This resource brings Junior Cycle Science notes, diagrams and optional practice together in one place. Start with the notes. Use videos when another explanation helps, and questions when you want to check what you remember.

How to use it

  1. Choose a topic from the course page or the menu.
  2. Read the explanations, enlarge diagrams and work through the examples.
  3. Use Watch for supporting Cognito explanations.
  4. Choose Practise, Concept checks or Flashcards for a short self-check.

The Irish Junior Cycle course

Topics are organised under Nature of science, Biological world, Chemical world, Physical world, and Earth and space. Nature of science connects the whole course. Practical skills develop through supervised investigations, not just reading notes or answering online questions.

Videos and links

Cognito resources are linked as additional explanations. They may include UK KS3 or GCSE material beyond the detail you need here. Follow your teacher’s guidance. This site is not affiliated with Cognito and does not reproduce its videos.

Notes and answers

The notes and self-check questions adapt the existing Tairseach Science resources. Worked answers are teaching guidance, not official SEC marking schemes. Open-ended answers can be phrased in other valid ways. Questions do not automatically assess practical competence or diagnose a misconception.

Use View notes (PDF) on any topic to preview its notes, then choose Download PDF to save a copy. The Downloads page has all 37 PDFs and a ZIP containing the complete set. Use Print notes for the browser print view. If you spot an error or an explanation that is unclear, tell your teacher the topic and question.

Privacy

The notes and optional quick practice can be used without an account. Quick-practice answers stay on the page and are cleared when you leave or reload it. The separate homework pilot uses Supabase accounts to save submitted answers, marks and teacher marking changes. Students can access their own homework, and the class teacher can review it. The current pilot uses dummy accounts only. No analytics, advertising or AI marking is used. External video sites have their own privacy arrangements. The hosting service may keep normal technical access logs.

For the teacher

This first edition brings together all 37 existing topic sets. It has been checked for content consistency and site functionality; it is not an independent certification of the entire course. Continue to use classroom teaching and your judgement, particularly for practical work.

Video links are maintained in a single topic resource file. Additional teacher-chosen links can be added without changing the lesson structure.
