Energy does not disappear

Energy can be stored and transferred.

BATTERY → LAMP → SURROUNDINGS

Chemical energy in the battery is transferred electrically to the lamp.

The lamp transfers energy by light and heating.

200 J IN

70 J useful light + 130 J heating = 200 J

Energy cannot be created or destroyed.

“Wasted” energy is still there. It is less useful for the job.
